Caramel Shortbread Squares recipe |
INGREDIENTS |
2/3 c. butter, softened
1/4 c. sugar
1-1/4 c. flour
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
2 Tb. corn syrup, light
1/2 c. sweetened condensed milk
1-1/4 c. chocolate chips |

METHOD |
Preheat oven to 350*
In medium bowl, mix together 2/3 cup butter, sugar and flour until evenly crumbly.
Press into 9 inch square pan and bake for 20 minutes.
In a 2 quart sauce pan, combine 1/2 cup butter, brown sugar, corn syrup and condensed milk; bring to a boil.
Continue to boil for 5 minutes.
Remove from heat and beat vigorously with a wooden spoon for about 3 minutes.
Pour over baked crust that is warm or cool.
Cool until it begins to firm.
Melt chocolate and pour over caramel layer, covering completely.
Chill and cut into squares(about 48 because it is so rich). |
