Golden Baked Onions recipe


INGREDIENTS

6 sweet onions, large and thinly sliced
1/4 c. butter or margarine
1 can cream of chicken soup, undiluted
1/2 c. milk
1/4 ts. garlic powder
3 c. swiss cheese, shredded and divided
6 slices french bread, 3/4 inch thick
2 Tb. butter or margarine, melted


METHOD

In a large frying pan, saute onions in butter until tender, about 12 minutes.
In a bowl, combine the coup, milk, garlic powder, pepper and 2 cups of cheese.
Stir in onions.
Transfer mixture to a greased 13 x 9 glass pan.
Sprinkle with remaining cheese.
Brush loaf pieces with butter on one side.
Arrange bread, butter side up, over the cheese.
Bake, uncovered, at 350* for 25-30 minutes or until bubbly.
If desired, broil for 4-6 minutes to brown bread.
Makes 6-8 servings.
