Grandma Sprague Date Squares recipe


INGREDIENTS

Base:
2 c. oatmeal
1 c. flour
3/4 c. butter, melted
1 ts. baking soda
1 c. brown sugar
pinch salt

Filling:
2 c. dates
1 c. hot water
1 Tb. flour
1 Tb. butter


METHOD

In a medium bowl, combine all Base ingredients together.
Grease an 8 x 8 square pan.
Pat down half of oatmeal mixture into pan; set aside.
Preheat oven to 375*.

Filling:
In a medium sauce pan, combine all filling ingredients.
Bring to a boil, reduce heat and cook until dates are cooked and mixture is thick.
Remove from heat and pour over oatmeal base.
Add remaining oatmeal mixture over date mixture.
Bake for 20 minutes.
