Onion Bake with Mushroom Cheese Sauce recipe |
INGREDIENTS |
6 Tb. margarine OR butter
1/4 c. flour
1/2 ts. salt
1/4 ts. paprika
1/4 ts. celery salt
1-1/2 c. milk
1 pimento, minced
2 c. raw onion rings, thinly sliced
3 eggs, beaten
2/3 c. bread crumbs
Mushroom Cheese Sauce
1/4 lb. mushrooms, sliced
1 ts. butter
1 egg, beaten
1 c. milk
3/4 ts. dry mustard
1/4 ts. paprika
1/2 lb. cheese, cubed |

METHOD |
For onions, preheat oven to 350*.
Melt butter in a saucepan; blend in flour and seasonings.
Gradually stir in milk.
Cook, stirring constantly, over low heat until thickened.
Add remaining ingredients except cheese sauce.
Pour into greased 1-1/2 quart casserole dish.
Set in pan of hot water and bake for 45 minutes, or until firm.
Serve with mushroom cheese sauce.
Mushroom Cheese Sauce:
In a fry pan, saute mushrooms in butter until lightly browned.
In top part of double boiler combine egg, milk, mustard and paprika.
Heat over boiling water.
Stir in cheese and blend until cheese is melted and sauce thickens.
Add mushrooms and reheat.
This whole recipe makes 6 servings. |
